D.E.

I don't get what your trying to say. He was talking about the NYT. I showed and example of the LA times doing the same thing.

And responded in kind to this from his post.

I would not call repeatedly posting posts that have been clearly proven to be false and abusive creating “a space where readers can exchange intelligent and informed commentary that enhances the quality of our news and information” nor effectively “screening submissions.”

If he is saying that the papers should creatively screen posts for accuracy then they are just going to stop allowing comments. To me this is akin to outlawing and thus trying to be the media police.

I think all the meida and most blogs have stopped caring what's right and what's wrong. .
What they like is attention and the revenues that generates. The best way to get attention is to stir up and maintain controversies.

Neocon says:

"It appears to me that you are trying to be the media police. The comments section all over the internet is rife with smear, innuendo and false or misleading information."

One of the examples was not in the "comments section," but rather in the "news" section of a reputable news organization.

The other was in the comments section of one of the nation's major newspapers, that claims to screen and moderate comments in order to create “a space where readers can exchange intelligent and informed commentary that enhances the quality of our news and information."

I guess your recommendation would be, as Rush Limbaugh so delicately puts it, "just bend over, and enjoy it " while singing kumbayah?

Whether or not a newspaper moderates its comments makes no difference to me... it is, after all, a private company.

But what doesn't make any sense is taking six days to publish a correction. Six days in these times is forever. Hell, six hours might as well be forever, too. Assuming the time frame is accurate, there's nothing at all, really, that excuses how long it took Army Times to push out the correction.

It should've been six minutes.

Welcome to our world.

Conservatives try daily to have the NYTimes correct or retract blatantly false articles, but they are oblivious.

When corrections finally appear, it’s weeks later after the maximum amount of damage has already been done.
