Well, I don't think anyone should vote based on what terrorists MIGHT be more likely to do.
I am not an Obama supporter . . . not really a McCain one either, I suppose, though I am conservative in more ways than liberal I think . . . but it would be appalling if someone voted for McCain/Obama thinking this would be a deterrent to terrorism.
That would be giving AQ a say in the American election. (I don't happen to think attacks would be any more likely under an Obama Admin. than a McCain Admin). Just my opinion.

I don't know how to say this politely, but this is the most useless quesiton I've seen in quite a while. Like the answer to our shamefully ongoing debate about torture, we have to decide who we are, not any friend or foe.

Marlowecan, funny you would make this comment: "That would be giving AQ a say in the American election." AQ well might have influenced the last election when Osama made his timely election appearance in 04.
David, I'm less worried about the concerns in your post than I am the homegrown lunatics and nutcases who are regularly shooting up schools and churches - the last liberal-hater-gone-off-his-rocker... for instance.

It's stupid and paranoid to base your support on someone based on what the terrorist may or may not want you to do. Or you think they may want you to do. I don't let terrorists rule my life and I don't care what they think.

David, I think it's a fair question given the attention that Bush gave to bin Laden in the 2004 election. At one time Bush wanted us to believe that bin Laden supported Bush because he really wanted Kerry in. Another time Bush wanted us to believe that bin Laden supported Kerry because he really wanted Kerry in.... You know that old saying, "Heads I win, tails, you lose"... No one knew what to think. Bush ended up winning the day because he kept the fear conversation going on what terrorists might do and who would protect us more....
Personally I feel the terrorists hate us and more importantly our influence in the Mid-East (most especially business dealings) regardless of which political party is in office.
Finally I disagree with your belief that Obama might attack terrorists more like a Republican would if the terrorists "force his hand", so to speak. I would like to remind you that Obama is all for taking out terrorists when we have actionable intelligence and the "host" country is unwilling or unable to attack them. Bush did this very thing after Obama suggested it.
In other words, I think Obama is more hawkish than most people think. The far left likes him because he was opposed to the invasion of Iraq. Most of the left thinks this automatically makes Obama a dove. Obama opposed the Iraq invasion because it was a stupid and dumb war. Obama is willing to defend our country when we are attacked. Obama is not willing to hype the (non-existent) threat a country poses to us and send in troops for his own political gain.
Also while I believe Iran does pose a threat, I think Obama is being more hawkish on Iran than I am. I'm not sure what the right response is to Iran, but I welcome Obama's willingness to talk to Iran and only go to war as a last resort. (Unlike Bush who has said war should only be a last resort, but then refuses to talk to his enemies... how can a war be a last resort if you don't talk to your enemies?)
Sorry to get off topic a little, but I think you pose a fair question. The bottom line for me is that the terrorists will hate us regardless of who is in office.
One last point. I think Bush/Cheney in their fight against the "Islamic" terrorists have done more to alienate moderate Muslims than to further offend terrorists. If we want to keep Muslims (and others) from hating the West (more than the US) and tipping over to extremism, then we have to stop giving them reasons to hate us.

Terrorists will strike regardless- they attacked us in 01, and have been attacking us and Iraqis in Iraq ( thanks to the attraction of convenient targets and splinter faction cross country ) They attacked us in 82 in Beirut....doesn't matter who's in office, Republican or Democrat.. We've had more casualties in Iraq than losses in 9-11. Do the math people, don't be hoodwinked by campfire bogeymen. McCain will play on that retarded fearmongering, just wait and see. The hysteria machine will rev up full force- regardless of the fact that we are in a sinking economy etc.
