Election 2008: Montana

Montana is one of the few states to have a race for Governor in 2008 but there will be little excitement attached to most of the contests in November.

President: Montana is part of the Republican oriented Rocky Mountain region but it has shown a willingness to vote for Democrats, supporting Bill Clinton in 1992. Obama will make this a target state and recent polls have shown McCain with a modest lead.

It’s going to be an unusual year for Montana voters, they will see much more of McCain and Obama than they would normally expect

Leans Republican

Governor: Incumbent Brian Schweitzer (D) is a very popular incumbent, though he has succeeded by being a more moderate to conservative kind of Democrat. This independence will help him coast to victory over Republican Roy Brown

Safe Democrat

Senator: Incumbent Max Baucus will win easily over Republican Kelleher.

Safe Democrat

House: Republican Dennis Rehberg is not quite as popular as Baucus or Schweitzer, but its close. He will win with ease.

Safe Republican

I really like that Governor Schweitzer has been able to pull the wool over every ones eyes - his director of revenue has offered legislation that would increase taxes over hundred of millions of dollars while the state has enjoyed a surplus of 1.9 billion dollars. Schweitzer has been successful in increasing business equipment tax by over 60 million per year for a total of at least $240 million, as well as fees of over $80 million per year. He's not a new type of democrat he's just liked by the news media.

I love the way you people at Fox "News" pull these numbers out of your respective asses. If you actually had any proof of this crap, you would provide links to state web sites where the numbers are documented. This is the same garbage that some right wing radio people in Oregon used to kill off an education funding initiative a few years ago. Claimed they heard rumors of a big stash of cash and told listeners they were looking into it. Found out it wasn't true right after the election.
