Note that Versailles was a combination of progressive Western conceit (already people thought they could remake the world for the rest of the world's own good, typically through government actions) and the darker side of European nature expressed in the vengeful parts of the treaty (that even the most anti-German critics of Nazi Germany acknowledge contributed to the rise of Hitler).
