Quinnipiac is a mainstream pollster with a long track record. They are strongest in PA, NJ and CT, though they've done lots of polling in FL and OH in recent years.

Also note that WaPo has Obama up 8 among registered voters and NYT has Obama up 6.

In the state polling Obama is leading in all the swing states except Florida where he is about tied. And Obama is within striking distance or leading in traditionally red states like MT, ND, VA, CO and even SD and SC. McCain is making no progress in vulnerable blue states like PA, MI or WI. MN is strong for Obama too.

Quinnipiac (University) polls have existed for some time.

I've been following the Iowa Electronic Markets, little on a day-to-day basis, but through this campaign season to see if there are trends to be seen. Aside from a short-term effect of Michelle Obama's "proud" remark earlier this year, the trend seems evident. Not only earlier, Obama versus Clinton but Obama vs. McCain.

http://iemweb.biz.uiowa.edu/graphs/graph_DConv0...

http://iemweb.biz.uiowa.edu/graphs/graph_Pres08...

http://iemweb.biz.uiowa.edu/graphs/graph_Pres08...

Quinnipiac

http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x271.xml

Considering the kind of attacks Obama has been under, from both the Right, the Left (progressives) and the Hillary women, It's to Obama's credit that he is still standing upright. Obama has to deal with accusations of being a Muslim friend of terrrorists, of hating America and racist voters. His broad knowledge about the international world is ignored.

Meanwhile, McCain's defense of a nonexistent country, Chekoslovakia, his confusion about Sunnis, Shiia , Hezbollah, alQaeda in Mesopotamia, as welll as alQaeda proper slides by barely noticed.

Given the uneven treatment, Obama's performance has been amazing, no matter what the polls say.
He may well lose, and we'll be stuck with behind-the-times and stuck-in the-past leadership again.

I am not saying Obama is or isn't leading McCain (I do think he likely is), but I have followed politics for years, and I have never heard of the Quinnipiac Poll poll.

Where did you dig it up? How long has it been around?
