There's no telling what could happen. The issue here is that what is happening is being exaggerated. (obviously)

I'll bet you dollars to donuts there is a direct relationship between the degree one considers this to be "hype" and:

A.) how well one is insulated from economic fluctuations

and/or

B.) the extent to which one tends to be an apologist for the administration in power.

Let's hope the depression scenario is wrong, but this remains to be seen.
