Polimom speaks for me.

And-
While we're talking abot responsibilty on every issue, why not take responsibility for conservation in both personal; and public life as one means to deal with energy problems?

Yes I agree on the Nuclear. Its really the only viable option but the tree hugger wing of the democratic party is more opposed to Nukes then they are anything else and they keep pointing to Alternatives as the holy graille and its not.

The numbers or more specifically the technology is just not there. Even Hydrogen cars this year have been produced in the quantitiy of 20.........TWENTY by Honda. Of course they were sent to Hollywood and given to the Rich and famous because their is like 2 gas stations that can refill the hydrogen cars in America and they are very close to Hollywood.

Cost of each car? A SECRET. But its suspected to be on the order of around 70k. Hardly the family car for the blue collar now is it???

No, we're not going to power America with wind by itself. Nor solar. Nor coal. If, however, each region develops alternatives or off-sets that are available to them (which includes geothermal), the resultant reduction on the grid will be massive.

Add nuclear to the mix (please!?!), and I think there are viable options we can start to develop. Right now today.

And judging by the increasing tension we're seeing w/ Iran, I'd say it's past time to get moving on them.

Will take 893,000 Wind turbines to light up all the private residences in America. Will take an additional 1000 to light up Al Gores house.

Will take 1.1 million solar panels to offset the wind turbines that are not producing.

In addition it will take 28 more coal plants. All of this in conjunction will light up the residences of America.........Kewl.

Now we just have to figure out how to fuel the business and industry which uses 23x's the energy as personal residences in America.

So if we install 23 million wind turbines..........23 million solar panels. Build 644 more Coal plants then we can illiminate 1/2 of our oil use and get rid of all nuke plants.

Great we dropped our oil use in 1/2 but China and India will gobble up that in a heart beat and thus we are still saddled with rising fuel costs.

Great lets go hydrogen. As I posted somewhere else a Hydrogen car has the potential to get 5000 miles per tank. The oil and gas industry is charged with creating hydrogen via oil and natural gas. A tank of hydrogen that gets 5000 miles will cost on the order of about 2000 dollars for a fill up?

Why? Oil and gas is used to produce it and by this time oil and gas will be 250 bucks per bbl.

GOOD luck America on that one. However we could pay for our fuel bills with credit cards then file bankruptcy and have our credit card debt wiped clean. Yeah thats the ticket.

Iran not only is overreacting to our presence in the Gulf...

We only overthrew their government, and helped Iraq fight them in a war. You're right, they probably have nothing to worry about.

(some of you may well be hoping Israel is badly harmed, if not destroyed completely, in a military conflict with Iran)

That's a disgusting charge. How about we try it on you to be fair. I think DLS is hoping that Iran is completely destroyed if not badly harmed, because DLS wants to see Iranians die.

Solar, wind, clean coal, natural gas....don't keep sticking your head in the sand and say La La La I can't hear you. A mind is like a parachute- only works when opened.

[sigh] Iran not only is overreacting to our presence in the Gulf, but demonstrating again its regional-threat nature. Aside from what little sympathy some on here have for Israel's predicament (some of you may well be hoping Israel is badly harmed, if not destroyed completely, in a military conflict with Iran), Iran threatens disruption of Persian Gulf oil supplies, which are considered by most to be an even more vital interest in the region (often favored at Israel's expense, which is logical though at times cynical, too).

I'll repeat the "imaginary?" phone conversation between Bush et al and the "fabled?" Emir:

Dubya: "Hey Emir, I need you to play along with this escalating violence thingy with Iran."

Emir: "What's in it for me?"

Dubya: "Billions in profits heh heh...if Hillary gets in there'll be real change and price controls...even defection to renewable energy.."

Emir: "Dear Allah!! We cannot have that! What do you want me to do??.."

Dubya: "OK, here's the deal...we're busy promoting this Chicago non-electable punk named Obama...heh...heh...like Salem's brother "Osama"...heh heh... We've got BigMedia working on that one 'round the clock....then while that's happening, we trump up trouble in your country...imminent war...that type of thingy...then when Obama gets the nomination...all hell breaks loose....just short of an invasion. Obama will lose to McCain and then we've got 8 more years of total monopoly."

Emir: "Sounds good. I'll tell my people. Give my best to the wife."

Dubya: "You too. And tell Salem I'm having a BBQ next week at the ranch."

**********

This reminds me of how BigOil retaliated against Canada's announcement of plans to phase over to biodiesel. Remember when diesel was way cheaper than gas? IMMEDIATELY after Canada announced this, BigOil responded with another scare tactic: to make the price of diesel higher than gas as a disincentive for people to buy diesel cars that ostensibly could be converted to biodiesel use.

I'm telling you, Congress needs to clip their wings hard and fast. The "escalation" in Iran is political and aimed at justifying continued oil $ hikes and in scaring people to vote for McCain. Period. This is traitorous. If one life is taken in a panic fallout from this type of propaganda, I suggest BigOil executives including George Bush and Dick Cheney be tried for murder.

Our country is being used used used U-S-E-D. We're not going to stand for it anymore. Goodbye BigOil. Hello alternatives...
