You know, they call it “flip-flopping” as if changing your mind is, in and of itself, a bad thing. This whole meme that Obama and McCain (and pretty much every other politician) is flip-flopping on issues is just BS in my book. Obama looked at the numbers on corn-based ethanol, something he supported for a while, and came to the conclusion that it was not as great a product as he believed. So he withdrew his support and now favors cellulose based ethanol production. Obama said 18 months ago that he'd like to have all the troops out of Iraq within 2 years of taking office. Now he says that is still the goal, but it's going to hinge on how things develop in Iraq and on the advice of commanders on the ground. And this is a problem why? People are taking issue with the guy for re-evaluating his positions to reflect new knowledge and information. Nonsense like this is why so many politicians get away with highway robbery and then get re-elected. I mean, what would you prefer? Another President who “stays the course” regardless of the actual facts? Another 4 or 8 years of applying the same bad “solutions” to our problems instead of trying something new? The level of stupidity and ignorance it takes to buy this flip-flop charge when applied to either candidate on most issues is just astounding to me.

I agree Amanda, but it's looking more and more like this is going to become a meme and late night talk show joke. There's little evidence for it, but but people vote on their perception, not reality. It's looking like this joke plays and if so, it will be reality for many millions. People still think Gore claimed to invent the internet after all despite the fact there's plenty of evidence against the joke.

Okay what if the generals all tell him we can win this thing. We just need 2 more years, 100k more men and patience?

What judgement does he make then.

Ill tell you…………..Nope sorry. Times up I promised my base were coming home. So the advice from the generals assumes that you know what they are going to say before they say it.

But if they give him encouraging news? Are you seriously going to tell me that he will stay in Iraq??

  4. Jim_Satterfield says:

First, we don't have the 100,000 other men…

  5. Amanda says:

Like Jim said, we don't have another 100,000 troops and our military is stretched thin as it is. So unless you think instituting the draft is a good idea, the point is moot. It's like saying “we could live on Mars if it had water and a thicker atmosphere.” It's true, but it isn't currently possible or helpful.

If a person receives new information about something and if that information makes the person change his or her mind, it is not “flip flopping to reorient his/her thinking . Only the basest of fools or the most information-less and clueless people can't change their minds. It's usually a result of impending dementia clinging to what it knows or irreversible ignorance admitting nothing. We have someone like that in the White House now and McCain wants to follow His Simian Majesty with something worse. I'll take Obama's changes. He usually is operating on ideas and discussions that are new to him.
