The McCain Camp’s New Team Readies To Steady The Ship

Advice to Democrats: get ready. The McCain camp is about to enter a new, more professional phase. It won’t be the same campaign with these skillful operatives. Some learned from Karl Rove. Some were the most talented operatives from campaigns that fought McCain. The operative words are: experienced, skillful and seasoned.

Joe links to a very interesting article here...that explains the bizarre disarray evident in McCain's campaign. The money quote:

"Hard to believe, fully 18 months into this presidential campaign and less than four months out from the November election, but DuHaime actually replaces no one on the McCain staff. That's because, amazingly, until Sunday the Republican presidential nominee's national team did not employ either a political director or a field director."

Amazing. Explains a lot . . .but still, amazing.
And this is the fabled GOP Noise Attack Machine...the Great Right Wing Conspiracy... that Democrats tell their children bed time stories about?

Kerry was leading Bush this time in 2004 . . . but Bush had Rove, and a Game Plan in place . . . to cope with the Democratic advantage in the MSM etc.

Recovery for McCain is still possible. But the GOP needs to get its act together, and go for Obama's weak spots with a vengeance.

I don't know, Joe. These "professionals" look like more of the same Rove-school hacks that led the Republican Party to where it is today. And Giulliani's campaign chief? Now that was a campaign that will go down in history as a textbook example of how to lose. McCain got to where he is by winning against the campaigns these guys ran against him - and he won not because he was so great, but because they were so bad.

Now I read that McCain is going to promise today to balance the budget by the end of his first term, by (apparently) privatizing Social Security, cutting Medicaid and Medicare, and here's the best part, by using the money saved by winning in Afghanistan and Iraq! This is just ridiculous on its face at so many levels.

Hey, maybe McCain will just camp out in Florida, a la Giulliani, and ambush Obama there to win the Presidency!

I agree with one thing though: The Democrats need to get ready for what's coming. We've seen for years how these guys operate. And it's not pretty.
