my post further down is similar to yours. You can google and find obama has not really changed his positions so much as the media is manipulating the left to gin up a controversy and it seems to be working as they are absolutely going nuts. You would think the left would know better then to let the media manipulate them this way.

I tend to agree with Sullivan. While the left goes into panic and over wrought handwringing any time a democrat tries to move a bit to the center to garner more votes in order to get elected, they tend to see it all throught the prism it means they are like Clinton. They are so fearful of another Bill clinton and triangulation and weakening the party that it basically sets off panic and clouds their ability to see any practicality.
I see what Obama is doing is partly the result of the stories being ginned up and much ado about very little. His stand on guns has always been the same. His remarks on Iraq the same. ect.
This is more the bored press trying to create conflict with supposed controversy where there is none.
The over reactive are not thinking but, just going off the edge without any common sense and that is how the media plays people and the reaction they hope to get.
any fool who can google or use youtube can go back to see where Obama has said pretty much the same thing back a year ago and now. and it's all a smoke screen created by a manipulatve press.

Jim,
Not that I see McCain really doing much on economy, I don't exactly see Obama doing much either. They both are using lame gimmicks. And on Iraq Obama is slowly moving towards something close to what McCain is offering. Only difference will be some mythical "timeline" which I don't even think Obama can deliver on. They both seem to be saying they will take their lead from the commanders on the ground. So it's basically health care and judiciary. Being center-right I imagine Pete is ok with conservative judges but I could be wrong. As for health care, I don't like the GOPs federal answer to it right now, although I do like Romney and Arnold's. I also don't like Obama's either. I think the answer is federal money supporting state gov'ts who will run their own much like how Canada does it.

For me it's having a checked gov't with Dems in Congress and GOP president who is know for bipartisanship or a Dem gov't gone wild after a long absence. So how I doubt they will restrain themselves. Didn't enjoy when the GOP went nuts, don't likely see it being that great with Dems either.

I'm sorry, Pete, but the majority of McCain's positions have him running as far away from the center and towards the Republican base as hard as he can. If his plans on continuing Bush's policies on Iraq, the judiciary, the economy and pushing more meaningless twaddle when it comes to health care haven't soured you on him what will?

I totally agree with Sullivan. Obama is the uniter that I, along with many others have been waiting for. I support him, even when I don't agree with him on every move, because I think it's what the country needs. I'm willing to overlook my own agenda here and there for the sake of attaining a sane, sensible center.
The wingnuts on both sides, of course, are going wild with loathing, because they can't comprehend anything better than perpetual partisan warfare and hatred.

Some of them even got locked out of Google, because their repetitive phrases got caught in Google's spam filter. That was a moment of comic relief amid their trolling efforts.

I can't support McCain,(sorry, Pete) no matter how centrist he tries to be,because they do differ widely on some key issues, and on those I side with Obama.

Sorry, the real future is in SAFE renewable alternatives. Go try your scare-tactics in another developing nation like India. There are plenty of potential consumers there who might be willing to buy your tripe.

Agreed. However America might be in ashes before we can adopt those in time to save a melting down economy. I see the talking points left never ceases their mantra. Try your scare tactics on someone who isnt paying 1000 dollars a month now to drive to work

Drilling for oil and it's companion scare-tactic nuclear.

Sorry, the real future is in SAFE renewable alternatives. Go try your scare-tactics in another developing nation like India. There are plenty of potential consumers there who might be willing to buy your tripe.

And the refreshing news is that Obama still isn't the official democratic nominee. There will be a vote in August to determine who actually, finally and officially has the nomination...and I've heard rumors that not just scores of layman democrats are defecting away from Obama and towards Clinton, but also that superdelegates are as well.

They were pretty closely tied in June...only a 100 or so superdelegates divided them...And when you consider people have had time to think and see, or rather not see, who Obama is, 100 could wind up being a very small number indeed.

Pete I know that you are trying to justify in your mind a vote for Obama because as you state you long for moderation.

What I think all voters need to do is to look to the future. Far in the future. Where do they want this country to be in 4 or 8 years.

Where they see this country in reality as opposed to a mythical idea in their hearts and minds.

In my mind I see in 4 years that we are still in Iraq. Still in Afghanistan. We are still Israels friend and we are nearly bankrupted as a nation.

I see this with either Obama or McCain as president. Because the number one issue. The overriding event that will destroy this nation is OIL prices. So I see that if McCain is in office the democrats will be more firm then ever to prevent us from drilling in order to ease the prices and the burden.

If Obama is in office I see a reticent party that will REFUSE to drill, instead wasting precious time as our economy melts down from sky rocketing oil prices.

So in the end I do not see the answer in either McCain or Obama. I see the answer lying with George W. Bush and the present congress. TODAY.

We must free it all up. We must pass incentives to get to drilling and we must work on issuing nuclear reactor permits. We must let refineries rebuild and build new plants. Today. Under Bush who has nothing to gain.

Obama and McCain can not take credit for it. Congress can. Then in the end we can make an evaluation as to who we think will better serve America in the next 4 or 8 years with this one terrifying aspect resolved going forward.

Congress is our hope right now. Today. Not McCain. Not Obama. And if they refuse to address this issue then I appeal to everyone to vote them out. 438 Representatives come up for election and 33 senators..........get rid of them and lets get some real change here for a change.
