The 1990's, when Helms was still in top form aren't really so obscure yet.
Some of those he hurt and offended are justifiably still hurt and offended.

It's funny how the chattering among some on the Right use cute phrases like 'alleged racist' , when he was so proud of his racism.
Thomas Jefferson was a great thinker, but he owned slaves, not alleged slaves.

I heard a bit of annoying clucking among the chattering classes, but we normal people simply shrugged. Is it surprising that he would die eventually and that it would be other than relatively obscure, since he no longer was a contemporary celebrity in Washington?

While a few degenerates years from now may discredit themselves, the rest of us will also shrug when Clinton or Bush are gone.
