dear Rudi, that's a heck of a point. If you think about it, it seems that there are any number of comedians who somehow have the talent but somehow murder it by what? maybe by leaving thought out of it; like you said re Clay, a fire hose blast without differentiation, instead of a river that has lots of different rythyms to it

timing. They say. Timing seems way different than just throwing stuff at the wall.

I know Dice had a lifetime opt'y with a tv series.

Carlin, Smothers brothers back in 60s. These days it's easy to miss freaking everyone who once was

Carlin and Bruce used “obscene” material to address issues and make us think about ourselves. Bad rap, heavy metal and comedians like Andrew Dice Clay just slug out obscenity to shock without any purpose or to evoke any thought. Will miss Carlin more than Timmy…

unclejoe40 and spirasol. I thnk many of us are having a similar reaction. I get this sense we are on a 33rpm turntable and some of us are flying off as it spins somehow fastser and faster nowadays. This was a shock to me tonight when the news feed came in. I said out loud, NO! Then, no no no no no no. I agree Unclejoe, why now. Geez. And spirisol you are very young. No 'see ya soon.” Just 'see ya later,' Ok? Ok.

……Just to echo UncleJoe: He made me laugh at times when I didn't want to and at things that seemed obscure in my own life; he made my issues his, and by extension, ours. When the great bean counter in the sky, does the math, Mr. Carlin will get the nod.

As an aside, it is frightening in a way and in a way expectable; part of the great plan. I am 59 y/o and it seems not a day goes by that a fellow traveler, a contemporary, slumps over along the trail. I am not looking for a cryogenic solution, so George, thanks for laughs, and for helping me to laugh at myself. I won't say goodbye, but rather……See ya soon…………

carlin used to sit in the audience and watch bruce...i think he was in the audience during the sf bust.

he took what bruce did to a greater level

i am totally in shock, because while he was 71, there was so much life there

and he is my hero, because he never gave up on the progressive ideals....and held everyone accountable, no matter what side of the aisle they sat on

goddamn you george....why now....
