aba.
You bring up an angle I hadn't considered.
There is an incestuous, self-propagating element in the information age, which deals largely in peddling perceptions instead of true information.
The more blogs post attacks on Obama, the more negative articles appear on memeorandum, for example. Basic news and the wildest allegations get an equal opportunity to influence. So, whichever is in the majority dominates, and allegations seem to be dominating facts..

The dilemma in politics is the Obama campaign dilemma. Is there a way to fight slime without descending into equal slime or trickery?

I'm not ready to give up on honor, sportsmanship and fair play. Increasingly, though, I wonder if I'm on the losing team.

I, on the other hand, think it is a great idea. Why you ask? Because the worshipful msm will not give any negative story about st john more than 1 day in the cycle. If the msm will not do their job, and by all accounts they(All networks, all news organizations) are not doing their job-my guess is that they can not hold 2 different thoughts in their heads, and since Obama needs to be investigated for every breath that he takes, there is nothing left to fault st john on, besides, the MSM really is the only base that st john has. So while stories abound about BO's not wearing a flag pin(how freekin silly can they be for gods sake) no one seems to notice that st john is not wearing one either. While rev wright rules the airwaves, the rev hagee-who is a bigot and a racist, who favors Israel only because that concentrates the jews so that they can be converted to the "one true religion", of course that will be after most of them are dead, because Hagee really really believes in the book of revelations, and to him, the final battle starts with war with Iran after which the nukes start falling(because Russia comes in on Iran's side)-is given the spotlite for only 1 day. And so it goes, St John has telecom lobbyists running his campaign-still-but that was only a one day story, and Phil Gramm, ex sen from Texas, who just happens to be a VP for UBS, which has lots of issues re the sub prime mess, which BTW, was really started because of a bill that was authored by none other than Gramm, who is paid by UBS, and is st johns advisor on economic matters. Also one doesn't hear about the land swap that st john did for one of his $$$$$supporters, who made millions in profits on it. So, because of these and many other stories that never see the light of day on the MSM-or only see that light for 1 news cycle- that is why I say that google bombing st john is a great idea.-BTW, I am not an Obama fan, in fact in the 2k race I voted for John McCain in the Mi primary and supported his campaign. But not now. He has pandered his way for so long that all of this ethics have become garbage.

I largely agree, but the counter-argument is that there's an institutional bias* and displaying a more balanced search result to people who Google McCain's name is a pretty innocuous response.

*FOX is not the best example, I know, but for instance their recent presidential poll questioning included independent questions about how people felt about flag pins (surprisingly strongly, by the way), candidates' wives, and Rev. Wright. There were no independent questions about any of McCain's perceived weaknesses (though one question compared concerns for his age to Obama's experience).

This is ugly. and he sounds likfe he's gloating!

I read today that MoveOn.org is closing shop in deference to Obama. This may be just symbolic, but it's the kind of symbollism I welcome..

This guy must be the replacement, doing everything Obama, the man he wants to see elected, opposes.
The irony is painful..
