DLS- defining your opponent is a basic of Politics 101. All candidates do it. John Kerry was defined as the elitist whose heroism in Vietnam was called into question. Goldwater was defined as a right-wing nut case who would saw off the Eastern seaboard and who saw no problem in casually using nuclear weapons in any conflict.

But the Plame affair WAS never explained to the public, and the involvement of top officials WAS covered up. It is no lie that we have had the most secretive administration in recent memory in office for the last 8 years, and no lie that they have retaliated by destroying the reputation of anyone who dared to speak out after leaving the WH. Tieing McCain to Bush and the questions that remain about Plamegate are two separate issues.

"I'm not sure why they're wasting their time with this."

It has nothing to do with logic, and everything to do with politics and the way this can be exploited to appeal in other ways than logically to so many Dem voters.

All that's missing is the exploitation of this to fabricate another derivative of the Big Lie this year that McCain is another Bush. (But then the easily fooled already have been fooled already with the standard Big Lie already fabricated.)

ChenZhen, the last paragraph tells us why in 3 easy points:

(1) He further documented in general terms why the administration has a credibility gap.

(2) His sworn testimony paints a picture of an administration that wasn’t honest with the American public...

(3) The White House response that didn’t address issues raised by McClellan directly but just went after him personally underscored why there is a credibility gap...
