Those who feel betrayed by what Obama is currently saying never listened to what he was saying during the promaries.
I listened pretty carefully because I (1) support Obama and (2) think that trade agreements are both inevitable and necessary.
I do also think that the US has entered into trade agreements recklessly and without forethought. I was pleased to hear Obama speak about the need to re-negotiate. Had he recommended opting out, I would have noticed, because it would have greatly alarmed me.

On a sidenote, the political labeling by the Left is becoming as misleading as the deliberate mislabeling by the Right. The Nation (or Dalily Kos) is not a synonym for 'progressive'. They are trying to usurp the generic term as their own, particular, brand name, though, causing resentment among the vast group of people who are progressive, but who quite often disagree with The Nation, Daily Kos or others appearing to speak for all of them.

The article was a smear job written by deliberately taking quotes out of context to tell the story the author wants to tell rather than reporting what was actually said. Obama's position on NAFTA has not changed and he said in the interview that he will be changing NAFTA. He just stresses that he wants to do it through negotiation if possible.

Read this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/18/ifortu...

You're right. For all those people saying he's inexperienced, he's pretty much doing what John McCain is doing, but in reverse. All the primaries, he was appealing to the base, and some would say, to the extremes. Now he knows he has to appeal to a wider audience, or he won't get the vote.

John McCain meanwhile keeps moving further right, although he was doing some of that during the primaries, too. And as the leader of the "we don't torture" movement who keeps distancing himself from that, he has no right to call anyone hypocritical.

Please, a point of order.

An about face is a 180. A 360 returns you to your original position/orientation.
