The three 2016 Republican presidential front-runners — Ted Cruz, Rick Perry and Donald Trump — held a joint news conference today, April 1, to call a truce on name calling and to declare that, henceforth, they will focus on foreign policy and economic issues rather than on divisive social issues.
“Since we are at the front of the pack and we all agree on same-sex marriage, immigration, abortion, health care and, most important, on the legitimacy of the present White House occupant, we must not waste time, effort and the all-mighty dollar on debating such settled issues,” the front-runners declared.
They added, “We must instead focus on the dire economic situation our country finds itself in: the Obama-precipitated crisis that is still headed in the wrong direction; a bogus recovery experiencing what must be the 12th straight month of gaining a measly 200,000 jobs or more; an economy that has stagnated at an anemic unemployment rate of 5.5% and one that has brought about ridiculously low gasoline prices and a galloping inflation rate.”
Most important, the three front-runners resolved, “We must apply our considerable foreign policy experience to convince Americans that no treaty — the coward’s way to resolve disagreements with other countries — must be signed; that no opportunity for putting American boots on foreign ground must be overlooked and –while not necessarily ‘foreign policy’ — that no occasion to read ‘Green Eggs and Ham’…err…to shut down the government must be wasted.”
Happy April 1.
