Great post!

But let me say, I've caught tons of fish on bambo or cane poles. Wading or sitting on the bank. And in a wide variety of areas.

To anyone who fishes, the difference is obvious. You can probably catch more trout, salmon, crappie, small mouth bass, etc. on that graphite rod with the baitcaster or spin caster or fly reel.

But you can drink a cold beer and work that bamboo or cane pole and still catch a few fish, if you're pacing yourself on the beer.

And in the end, to me at least, it's called fishing vs catching for a reason. And on some of my most enjoyable trips, the fish deemed to ignore me. That works for me on a hour or hour and a half drive from the house to go do what I call "relax fishing".

That said, when you're spending a few grand to get up to Alaska, GIVE ME MY GRAPHITE ROD!

It is really hard to land that spring chinook or huge Halibut on the bambo rod.

OK, lifetime fishing nut now sent to the cellar.
