There's nothing wrong with her running against Obama in 2012, either as a Dem or as an independent candidate. (Why should we worship the incumbent, ever? Anyone resenting that Obama could face that is unrealistic; Bush had no serious Dem challengers besides Hillary Clinton in 2004, but what if the war and occupation schedule had been shifted, and 2004 was already looking to be like 2006, and re-election prospects were far from assured for Bush? What would have been wrong with a challenge to Bush within the GOP? The answer: nothing.)

Both parties should have learned from the interest this Dem-contest-for-real this year generated, and have second-term campaigns contested within the person's own party from now on if the incumbent is not strong.
