Ah, the Rush Limbaugh clones from the Clinton camp. on a chaos and destruction mission.

Ah such endearing words to those of us who support Hillary Clinton. We are now Rush Limbaugh clones. Good one.

Thinking of your comment still.... Did I come across as saying that I wanted to undermine Clinton's platform at all costs?

DLS, I think we are completely talking past one another. I don't understand what you are saying. Are you saying that if one has a favorite candidate, then one should try to undermine anyone who was ever an opponent even when the favorite is gone? So that, since people supported Clinton due to a 20% policy difference from Obama that they should continue to somehow oppose Obama even when the remaining alternative is a 65% policy difference (i.e. McCain compared to Clinton)? So since I once thought Richardson was a better candidate than Obama that I should now be campaigning for McCain in order to stay in the not-Obama camp?

I don't think this is what you are saying, but it's the best I've got so far.

My point I thought was just that Obama and Clinton policy-wise agree most of the time, so that supporters of one should support the other when their candidate is gone. I am guessing that you see something completely different in my posts here.

If someone were consistent, then logic and honestly would compel them to undermine Obama's platform now that Clinton is getting out of the race (in her own way). I hope you're happy if that's what you would like to see happen because that's where logic (and honesty) says you should do if that's what should be done against the Clinton platform.

"That means undermining Obama's platform, too. They're the same. Congrats."

DLS, that was my point. Obama and Clinton have similar platforms and so a Clinton supporter working to undermine Obama now that Clinton is out of the race is working to undermine Clinton herself.

But I'm not sure who the "congrats" is directed to.

"This is the US and they can vote for whoever they want to."

How many of them really, really will vote for McCain? Few. It's hardly the same as the childish rabid anti-war part of the Obama crowd who would be the first among all who aren't doing so already, who would choose to vote for Ralph Nader.

I'm almost inclined to give the pro Hillary bloggers the benefit of the doubt now. Seeing how Taylor Marsh and the TalkLeft folk have to actively defend their allegiance to the Democratic party the last few days, I imagine that it's just now becoming clear to them how, erm, impressionable and stubborn their audiences were.

"No better way to honor Sen. Clinton than to actively work to undermine almost all of her platform."

That means undermining Obama's platform, too. They're the same. Congrats.

Slamfu,
That's very intereesting about the site.
----------------------------------------------------

I've been wondering also, about the makeup of the ex-Hillary, now McCain voters.
I'm sure it's not a monolithic group, and the reasons very.
I'm wondering anew about Hillary's 'hard working white workers; constituency and her popularity among OLDER women.
How much of her support came from the 'never a black Muslim' crowd?

I found the way Hillary played up to McCain very strange,as it's acknowldged by many right wingers that Hillary as the Dem candidate is a great energizer for the GOP base and moivator for donatioons to McCain. What did she think she was doing with that, since helping herself meant also helping McCain? This couldn't have been a get Obama at any price strategy between the two of them, could It?

The things under the surface are fascinating, but I think they're bad for you (quoting Carlin).

Stepping back from my first offhand comment, this is mostly a reminder to me how most people, including myself at times, vote for a person and not policies. I would vote for Clinton if she were the nominee, but I must confess that most of my reservations about her are not policy but personal. While I had always believed myself to be both a Clinton and Obama supporter, I became more skeptical of Clinton due to what appeared to me to be blatant pandering near the end of the campaign. We don't want to trust economic policy to economists? Come on. But pandering is mostly a personal flaw, not a policy one. And so it makes some sense that people who grew to dislike Obama for whatever personal flaws would not vote for him still, even when doing so hurts the very policyies that your favorite candidate stood for.

This is the US and they can vote for whoever they want to.

I am very proud to see all the support that Obama has received from all races. What's interesting is that during his speech on Tuesday he did not say he was the first African-American to win the nomination. I think that's great because he is not running as an African-American. He's running as a citizen of teh United States to be president. I think if he had based his campaign on race ("I'm the first African-American man to be the party's nominee") then that might cause some voters to have second thoughts.

However far this country has come in race relations, there are still problems and no doubt some people will vote for McCain because he is white. Many voters may not give that as a reason, but it's still a reality.

Lastly, if Hillary Clinton wanted to show true support for Obama and the Dems, then she would not allow her name to be associated with these "Hillary Clinton Supporters for McCain" groups. If those folks truly were Hillary supporters then they would back her and her decisions. For these groups to use Hillary's name just undermines the Democratic Party. Though I don't mind if there are groups called, "Democrats for McCain".

It's one thing for a voter (Dem, Rep., etc.) to vote for McCain because they prefer his policies, but it's another thing for a Hillary supporter to vote for McCain because they have a case of sour grapes and want to "get back" at the Dem. Party because they didn't get what they wanted.

If they really want to have the US send its sons and daughters for the foreseeable future to fight and die in a war that takes much needed money from the US and our own needs, (or any of the other positions McCain has taken) then let them vote for McCain. Even though I fully expect some of these Hillary supports to vote for McCain, it'll be interesting to see how long this steam actually lasts.

Just a reminder that the number of hardcore Clinton deadenders that would go so far as to vote against the will of their candidate and support McCain is very small. They are a very, very vocal crowd, but not very large. Recall a couple weeks ago when a journalist studied the last 100,000 messages on the hate-site hillaryis44.com -- and found that a grand total of 310 people posted all 100,000 messages.

Don't worry -- the overwhelming majority of Clinton supporters are smart, they are reasonable, they are realistic. Many of them are running on raw emotions right now, but give them some time, and they will soon realize that voting for McCain would be the same as betraying Clinton and everything that she stands for. There's a lot of talk about Clinton supporters so angry and disappointed that they are willing to vote against their best interests purely out of spite, but I don't buy it. We're just in the heat of the moment, and the election if months away. Give it some time.

While such people certainly do exist, they are now mostly the squeaky wheels searching for media grease. Many are the ones who've either blamed every silly pundit statement on Obama, or who've blamed Obama for the percieved media bias against Sen. Clinon, or who were caught up in the sheer identity politics involved, or who were naive about politics and were participating in their first real passionate campaign.

But the sin is that the Clinton campaign has nurtured these ill feelings toward Obama, lovingly fertilizing them with the manure of their "arguments," telling her supporters that the election was somehow being stolen from Sen. Clinton. That Clinton's own faults as a candidate were not of her making, but were really due to misogyny, or conspiracy, or "disenfranchisement," or ... whatever the argument of the day was. They fed it, watered it, and shined artificial light on it in places like hillaryis44, No Quarter, clintonforum, taylormarsh, and talkleft.

Never mind that she has been a nationally-known brand for more than 16 years. That she and her husband, more than any other team in the Democratic Party, have controlled the Party levers of access and power for that same period. That she had all the money, and hundreds of delegates lined up before the first vote was cast. That she had her pick of the "best" Democratic strategists that her name and money could buy. That until she lost in Iowa, she had been considered, for years, the inevitable nominee of the Party whenever she inevitably decided to run.

The nomination contest was exceedingly close, and if it hadn't been for her early mistakes and inability to quickly recover from them, she certainly could have won. That a minority of her staunchest supporters are so disillusioned as to now vote against much of what she has spent her life working for, out of pure spite in many cases, is a sad reflection on them, as well as their candidate's failed strategy more than of Obama's own flaws.

The best way to sway a wavering Clinton supporter is to remind them of two words:

"Supreme Court."

"These people are delusional or just political hacks/pundits looking for attention."

Neither, they are puppets of the GOP, and will say anything at any given moment to steer the electorate to their goals. I bet even they were surprised that after so many years of demonizing her they could get so many of their listeners to do an about face and support Hillary Clinton when they thought it could affect the nomination to a weaker candidate.

Didn't Rush Limpbaugh and Hannity say they would vote for McCain? Didn't Coulter say she would support Billary before she could vote for McCain? These people are delusional or just political hacks/pundits looking for attention.
