Encouraging Signs?

Maybe her most ardent detractors should cut her some slack. Clinton stands up for Obama at AIPAC.

McCain probably has ulterior motives — he tends to do better than Obama in small, townhall settings; and much worse than Obama in mega-venues — but Obama apparently doesn’t care, and I (for one) think this approach would be a wonderful injection of energy into our sometimes-stilted, often-tired methods of vetting presidential candidates.

It's no longer her most ardent detractors. Now you have Charlie Rangel, governor Rendell, and Hilary Rosen all making noises and wondering what she's up to.

The joint twon hall meetings idea sounds like soemthing I would normally endorse,. I still remember McCain's version of debates from his contest against Romney. I don't think interrupting, drowning out the opponent with a drumbeat repetition of something patently false or mischaracterized is the substance of productive debates. Gentlemen invariably lose in these situations.

There would need to be some basic groundrules and someone to enforce them, to make this work.

runasim, I agree with you. Perhaps we could have good moderators who are given the authority to step in and take the offending party to the mat. I'd love to see McCain start erupting and have someone who's not afraid to stand up to the candidates try to contain him.

I remember clearly the interaction between McCain and Romney in a couple of the debates, I think one was a tussle over illegal immigration.
