Now bring on McCain: ‘Epic struggle ends with victory for Obama’

All evening long, WORLDMEETS.US will be posting global coverage of Barack Obama’s historic victory over Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination.

As usual, the British and the Australians are the first out of the gate with commentary on Obama’s historic victory.

Rupert Cornwell and David Usborne write for the Telegraph of Great Britain:

“After an epic five-month battle that has transformed American politics, Barack Obama crossed the finishing line last night

and pledged to lead the Democratic Party into battle against John McCain in his extraordinary quest to become the first African-American president in this country’s history.”

In regard to Hillary Clinton’s suggestion that she’d be ‘open’ to being the Vice Presidential nominee, also from the Telegraph, Toby Harnden writes:

“Senator Barack Obama is poised to become the first black presidential nominee in American history, and his defeated rival Senator Hillary Clinton has floated the proposal that she be his vice-presidential running mate. The suggestion by Mrs Clinton, which was sure to be treated as presumptuous by the victorious Mr Obama …

ABC News of Australia highlights the battle to come:

Just over a year ago few in the US had heard of Barack Obama.

“Now this first-term Senator is on the brink of becoming the first African-American presidential nominee. … Senator Obama’s defeat of Hillary Clinton is one of the biggest upsets in modern political history. His next big test is whether he can become America’s first black president. That would be an even greater political achievement.”

William, that is an *awesome* site. Talk about a news concept that's desperately needed in the U.S. It's a brilliant idea; I've bookmarked it.
