Sen. Clinton Open to Being Sen. Obama’s VP Candidate

msnbc.com – BREAKING NEWS: Clinton tells N.Y. lawmakers she’s open to being Obama’s VP candidate

WASHINGTON – Hillary Clinton has told congressional colleagues she would be open to becoming Barack Obama’s vice presidential nominee, saying she would consider it if it would help Democrats win the White House.

Clinton, a New York senator, made the comment on a conference call with other New York lawmakers Tuesday, according a participant on the call.

The senator’s remarks came in response to a question from Democratic Rep. Nydia Velazquez who said she believed the best way for Obama to win over key voting blocs, including Hispanics, would be for him to choose Clinton as his running mate.

“I am open to it,” Clinton replied, if it would help the party’s prospects in November.

Well, as a supporter of Obama, I am NOT open to Clinton being VP.
How could he possibly trust her after all she has said and done?
The woman has no integrity and it would be playing politics which
    Barack has refused to do.
    NO HILLARY VP!!!!!

Sen. Clinton certainly deserves to be on Obama's “short list.” She's tenacious, scary smart, and obviously, a tireless campaigner. That said, she's backed herself and Obama deep into a corner with regards to her selection as a running mate, due to many of those same qualities.

While her selection would certainly help bring many of her strongest supporters more willingly over to his side, it could very well alienate many of the independant and Republican voters that might be otherwise willing to back him.

Obama has to have Clinton as his VP in order to win the GE in my opinion. If it's about Democrats winning in the Fall, Obama/Clinton '08 has to happen regardless of what happened during their intense primary battle. It's the only way to help heal the rift in the Democratic Party. Clinton and Obama attracted 34+ million voters together this primary season.

Forgot the short list, Mike_P, she IS the short list. :-)

Part of me thinks that HRC will be what Obama needs to succeed in November, but part of me just shudders… perhaps it would be easier for me to deal with it if Bill wasn't in the picture. A lot of it will depend on how HRC ends her campaign & when.

  6. Rambie says:

Well Neocon, I'm sure you'd find some reason NOT to vote for any Democrat anyway… just like any neocon will.

It seems like Hillary has been field testing the Republican anti-Obama material for months so they could polish it for the GE season. For that reason, part of me thinks he'd be crazy to pick her for VP.

If the Dem's were smart (cough cough), this “Hillary vs Obama” show would have been nothing but political theater to keep the GOP off balance.

So that whole “Change we can believe in” mantra means that Obama would bring someone along from the inside with all her baggage? Pardon me, but if Obama chooses Hillary as his running mate, that slogan falls dead on arrival.

  8. worried says:

President obama please do not choose hilliary as your running mate. this could prove to be your undoing,

One thing about picking Hillary. That would fire up the GOP unlike anything we have seen. However Im pretty sure the Democrats are content with self destructing so they might just actually do that.

Let me point out something that many of us seem to have overlooked or forgotten when it comes to the political process.

Not only is the GOP ruderless with everyone scrambling for cover but the Democrats are just as rudderless. They took a MAJORITY in both houses and DID NOTHING and blamed it on the war.

Harry Reid could not wait to get back to discussing the war in the middle of the Immigration debate. Some of the most important legislation in decades and he could not wait to table it so they could pass more resolutions against the war.

The Democrats are leaderless. Barak Obama has a chance to step in and take over that leadership role but I fear that he will succumb to those in the party pressing not to get things done but to drive a stake into the heart of the GOP.

By making that mistake they will miss a chance at making real progress and real change because This is America. Once Americans realize those they voted to do work are only content with retribution they will get their hineys kicked out of office so fast their heads will spin.

So as much as the GOP is rudderless so too the democrats find themselves with no one who is really sure which way the party should go. They have simply staked their fortunes on the antiwar sentiment in this country and purposely have not talked issues.

A chance to move forward will be lost on the party that is more interested in retribution and getting even then on whats good for America. Just as the GOP was focused on Getting Bill Clinton and missing a golden opportunity to move forward they now find themselves wandering in a desert of mirages with the voice of Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater asking them “What the hell were you thinking?”
