Reports that Clinton “will” concede tonight, watch AIPAC in the a.m.

Update: From Terry McAuliffe at TPM too.

I’m telling you again like I did last night: tomorrow morning, AIPAC, Clinton, Obama, Pelosi, Reid – facing down John McCain and the group of supporters he thinks he can wrap around his fingers.

From My Way news:

WASHINGTON (AP) – Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, campaign officials said, effectively ending her bid to be the nation’s first female president.

The former first lady will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race in her speech in New York City. She will pledge to continue to speak out on issues like health care. But for all intents and purposes, the two senior officials said, the campaign is over.

Most campaign staff will be let go and will be paid through June 15, said the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge her plans.

A lengthier version by the same reporter is here.

The big question now is whether she will be able to bow out in a way that will build unity in the party? Will the last few months of divisiveness be too much to overcome for the party? My guess is that for at least a few weeks emotions will still be flying high, but that over time the party will come together as people begin to weigh out the choices in front of them and realize the consequences of the threatened protest vote.
  • We're all only guessing, you know? :)
