You called it. I think StockBoySf, these 'first responses' may morph somewhat or a lot ... as people think it over, they may decide other things or temper first responce. When I was covering the Libertarian National Convention last week, there was similar splitting when Congressman Barr was elected as Presidential candidate. Lots of anger and literal tears, and so on, in all directions. But, in time, MOST, not all, but most pulled back together with one another. I think though that it's valuable to see not just that people split, but how remarkable it is when people come together... given the propensity in all of us to go running to one end of the pier or the other with hair afire.

Youre right, at the moment, many on all sides are upset, for different reasons. However, perhaps also, its useful to hear what people are really thinkng, who are normally silent or invisible. Reading different people's takes gives me much to think over these past days... seeing what people dare/want/need to think out loud.

dr.e

Meanwhile, national security expert John McCain doesn't even know how many of our troops are in Iraq.

Who wants to place bets that this story will dominate the entire week's worth of news cycles?

So now Obama has both the far right and far left mad at him. The far right (as pointed out in AverageBro) sees Obama's move as pure politics and the far left feels that Obama is abandoning them. :)
