The withdrawal of scholarships for Gaza students is bad on so many levels that I can't even see the silver lining Mr. Levy refers to in his article. He finds hope in the reaction, but I fear an overreaction equally. Now that it's been done, the effects can't be undone, no matter what the fate of the 7 students may turn out to be.

The argument that the denial of exit visas is a countermeasure agaisnt the continual bombardment by Hamas rings totally hollow, as this will only strengthen Hamas's appeal to Palestinian youths. Who else is there to help them? Not even the US can, as it is apparently the junior member in the US-Israel alliance, in this very important situation.

This is bad for the students, bad for Israel and bad for the US.
