What we've never realized is that these types of underhanded attacks tend to weaken democratic forces instead of strengthening them. The Cubans become more nationalistic and hate our government more than their own. Cuba must be reformed by what we used to call glasnost---openness- cultural exchanges and trade. After all we trade with Communists in China and Vietnam don't we?

Don't get me wrong, I think Castro is a left wing authoritarian thug whose main motivation in life was was the aquisition of power. I don't romanticize him or Che like many of my fellow liberals, but neither does that justify the atrocities my people have comitted fighting them.

Bombing of churches while services are going on is one fine example. I have little doubt that poisoning livestock was also considered fair game.

"but the truth is that the Republicans - and especially Bush - are expert only in leading their people into wars they cannot win.”"

You got that right. Although to be fair they are pretty good about conflating imaginary problems with real ones too.

Proof?

"U.S. leaders used such weapons against the island. From U.S. military laboratories along the Panama Canal, originated biological cultures destined to contaminate pig farms, destroy Cuban foodstuffs and reduce resistance from the people with hunger."
