Payne. The only two men named Charles W. Payne shown to have joined the service in Kansas in that period <a href="http://stubbornfacts.us/politics/2008_election/hold_it#comment-14748">both enlisted in the Navy</a>, which notably did not march on Germany. <br><br>Now, maybe HIS Charles W. Payne joined in some other state, or someone in the genealogical research blew the middle initial, but at this point, given the changing stories, I'd kinda like to see a contemporary roster indicating that Charlie Payne of Kansas served with SOME unit of the 89th Infantry, because at this point the ever-changing word of Obama is insufficient for me. A copy of the Infantry Journal's unit history of the 89th 1942-1945 should be sufficient to settle the point.
