I just reread my comment and realized that it sounds like a criticism of this posted article.
Actually, I enjoyed reading it very much, and I also found the interview Feith gave on PBS to be instrucitve.

Mine are jjust some random reactions along the way.
.

Two lines of thought come to mind.

A) About getting a proper perspective after eough time has elapsed. I wonder how proper perspective ever is, regardless of the length of time., Some events, and even whole eras, are still plowed by authors for evidence to back current political views, thus producing incomplete or one-sided histories.

B) About the prospects in Iraq, it's frunstrating that future outcomes are laid out in only a stark dichotomy.: stay and give great opporuniites a chance , or leave and risk the worst kind of disaster.
Both of these scenarios are perfectlry valid as an exercise in suppositions, but so are other posiibilites that no one seems willing to consider.
I can think or at least 4-5 others without too much effort. . This is not a debate about the war, however, so I'll just summariz by saing that I think there are risks in staying as grave as the risks in leaving.
I wish our politicians and intellectuals would lay out the whole complicated situation instead of boiling it down so far that it no longer represnts reality.
Voters should understand which set of risks they are authorizing by their choice in elections.
