It amuses me greatly that people simply cannot understand or acknowledge that the convention is about much more than just the nomination. It's also about the division of power within the party for the next four years, which includes very real power over and within a Democrat-majority House and Senate, and all the goodies to be parceled out thereby. There are indeed rational reasons for Clinton to keep collecting poker chips for the convention even if she KNOWS she can't take the nomination. The "consolation prizes" are often worth a lot more than the nomination. In very very real terms.

Senator Clinton is not irrational. If she can't have the nomination, she WILL collect for all her time and effort ANYWAY. The more chips she has to take to the convention, the more leverage she has to maximize the buyout for NOT taking the fight to the convention. To get maximum mileage out of that threat she has to signal that the threat is real and that she has the willingness to follow through, and that's exactly what we're seeing now.

Forest, trees. QED.
