Iraq, and the Lessons Of “Charlie Wilson’s War”

We’re in for the long haul.

I fully believe if "we break it, we fix it", as Powell stated and after totally screwing the operation over by letting jackasses ex Saddam-enablers like Rumsfeld into the picture, that it's a natural evolution for it to devolve into the quagmire it has become.
    Everyone knows micromanagement is failure.
America is now a crutch for Iraq, nothing more. Opportunistic factions like Syria and Iran are circling, no doubt. And we let them in.

""we break it, we fix it"

We're not obliged to do a thing, in theory. In reality, we're the most generous nation there is. It's complicated because "our" (Bush admin) management of the post-war effort was bungled, but also because external meddlers have made the place a frequent nightmare.

By all means, try to fix it, but it requires we obviously not stampede out of Iraq (that is the most likely method of causing even worse failure). We don't want the oil to fall into the hands of terrorists (or the Iranian government, pretty much the same thing but with more oil wealth already and much better armed and active). In fact, we've been somewhat too kind and need to do more "doorstep service" as far as the terrorists are concerned (the same is true for Israel in the territories -- to hell with playing with bulldozers):

"When you're in a fight with a fly, use a sledgehammer." (The other flies may learn)

Terrorists attacking from house? Good-bye, house, and terrorists in house!
