No Palpitations, Please

A friendly warning to those of you who bother to watch the largely meaningless primary returns tonight: Kentucky is a split-time-zone state.

… polls in the eastern part of the state close one hour before those in the west.

Since the eastern part of the state is home to the areas in which Obama hopes to be competitive (Louisville, Lexington, the Cincinnati suburbs) and since cities tend to report more quickly than rural areas, early results may make it appear a closer race than it is.

The western part of the state, though less densely populated, is mostly Clinton country …

As the western part of the state reports its results tonight, expect to see Clinton’s margin widen.

That admonition is best directed to all Dem voters for the rest of this nomination campaign. There's never been any reason for you to be upset, worried or in any way anxious, and there is a substantial probability that the nomination campaign will not be settled until during the Democratic convention, which if anything given this year's fun on the Dem side is completely welcome and eagerly anticipated.
