Best Candidate Drawing Ever!

As a chic living in Chicago and now D.C., I have a pretty honed gaydar. It’s a survival tool for a single girl. So excuse me if I’m wrong, but this is likely the gayest drawing of a non-gay politician I have ever seen. And I love it.

The drawing was done by Lukas Ketner for a Portland area paper on April 30, well before the mass we witnessed yesterday. Willamette Week – “For The Love of Politics”. The theme that WW was going for was a baptismal Jesus-ish sort of thing to embody this cultish worship crazy adoration going on, but it just ends up looking gay, and by gay I mean totally awesome. I have several male friends who are putting this up on their bedroom wall as we speak. And the white horse in the background would work under either theme.

Save the hate mail. I know people get so upset if you make any fun of the Chosen One. I love the guy, but this drawing is hilarious. It might replace the photo-shopped pic of him smoking a cig looking half sleep (which pisses everyone off too even though its wicked cool) as my official Obama picture for every post I ever write for the rest of my life, even after he is no longer president. I hope he makes this his official White House portrait and hangs it in the hallway or something. Then, every Sunday, he can bring it out onto the South Lawn for services and people can come light their candles.

I love it, too! I totally agree that it's awesome- thanks!

Nice to know you've bought into the RW spin of Supporters of Obama being "culties"
Ever actually listen to the man speak? Could say the very same about Bushies or McCainanites.
Lets all throw donuts at the feet of the Great War Hero...
( since when is it heroic to be a bad pilot and have daddy pull strings so you get out 4 years ahead of your co-captives?)
Not so much for the shrill shrieking of Hillary....
All in the delivery, just sayin'.

Nice illustration, tho a tad West Village looking.
  • If I owned a van, that would be airbrushed on the side of it.

Awww RememberNovember, lighten up! I'm a firm Obama supporter, and I think it's funny as hell. It's a stereotype, and no stereotypes are true, but most have an at least small connection to reality (some Obama supporters ARE cultish, but not all, McCain IS old, but not Salomon, and Clinton IS kinda shrill, but not the wicked witch of the west....I think).

The picture actually reminds me of one of these drugstore novel covers, though I suppose you would need Michelle soaking wet with her shirt clinging and hanging loose from her shoulder.

"The theme that WW was going for was a baptismal Jesus-ish sort of thing to embody this cultish worship crazy adoration going on.."

I don't think it's a worship thing any more than say Huckabee going on about to his flock in rewriting the USC to remap it to the Bible.
( as far as I know, there were no guns in Jesus time, so ya might wanna rethink that Huck)

Obama as Fabio on a Harlequin novel...or like those Urban novels I see on the streets here....

If you hadn't told me that was supposed to be Obama I never would have guessed. Maybe somebody who made it through their senior year art class with a passing grade could white out the head and draw in a picture that looks kinda like the intended subject.
Parody gets a big fat FAIL if you can't even figure out who you are supposed to be laughing at without subtitles.

    But is it art?

This is strictly a personal preference issue,. If it 'speaks' to some people, that's great.
If others want to take a pass, that's fine.
If some are repulsed, don't get copies!
  • I exchanged emails with the artist. Here's what he says about the illustration.
