Than Shwe and his minions have been also systematically slaughtering burmese minority populations for over a decade now. He's a total bastard, the likes of Stalin, the kind of guy who can order the death of millions and not lose a wink of sleep that night. It almost makes me want to believe in god just so I'd have someone to thank for not growing up under a tyrant like that.

Instead I'll thank the founding fathers and every generation after for doing their best to live up to the law. And reread the Bill of Rights.

dear RememberNovember Golf? Golf. Geez.

You reminded me of Geo Bush's comment yesterday that he hasnt been playing golf for a while for it might look unseemly to be seen in public enjoying himself while soldiers die in Iraq... I think I understand the way he meant it... but...

Also, i think it's notable to hear 'from the horses' mouths, so to speak, what you and many otheres have likely suspected and been sure of all along re Burma's 'fairness and truth' ideals. Than Shwe has bent over backward to control the Burmese media, confiscating, imprisoning and killing. The local journalists who dared to breathe what they saw this past week, dared to say it to someone else who carried it out to us, is something Than Shwe despises: the internet life line. And bravery. Real bravery.
