Excellent work. However, it might be more palatable to some without the editorializing, tasty though it is. I'd lose this part:

"The faith of the people in their government has been shaken by Republican cronyism, corruption and abuse of power. As our gubernatorial nominee Chris Bell has said, “the problem with Texas ethics isn’t what is illegal so much as what is perfectly legal. The culture of corruption is so entrenched in Texas politics that it is now a radical notion to apply common sense to something as basic as right & wrong.”

The text I posted is the 2006 platform. My revisions will be different.
My thought on redistricting is to have it every decade OR whenever the state population changes by 10% so that representation stays relatively fair. That was the rationale by the GOP when they did it in 2003.

Pete, I want to propose that all elections be publicly financed. Starting with judicial elections to get started.

OMG!!!

You just showed up and raised your hand?

You are totally the man!!

You may remember my complaints about gerrymandering. I favor the Iowa model for drawing election districts. But since I see you're trying to keep the redistricting down to once a decade, I suppose the Iowa model, or any similar type of reform, may be too far to go all at once.

Congratulations. I'll be very interested in reading all about this process.

Paul -- I like it, but am wondering why limit public financing to the general election campaigns? Is it a cost issue?
