As always, Florida seems to be a key battleground state. If there is a VP candidate who can make the difference in FL, that is well worth pursuing. It's hard to imagine most of the classically blue or red states switching, and, after the primaries, it's hard to imagine Obama finally pulling Ohio or other Rust Belt states over to the Democratic side (though you never know), which leaves Florida as a key prize in the general election. I don't know if Richardson's Mexican-American heritage will have much appeal to Florida voters or not. Hey, if Florida can't participate in the nomination process, maybe they will be content with deciding the Presidency.

Of course, I'd be happy with Richardson as I was likely going to vote for him before he dropped out.

Slamfu,
His tendency to needlessly regurgitate his entire resume during debates gave me that impression as well :-)

I'm still holding out hopes that Bill Richardson gets the VP slot. Not sure if he's got the charisma to ever win a presidential bid in 2016, but I really thought he was qualified in every other regard.

But here's the thing: it would be better to get a Southerner in the VP slot with either of them. Someone like VA gov Mark Warner.

This is a good framework for a better "story". We must create dialogue that bringing Hillary on board as VP would be a change... one that shows ability to get along with each other and move on. Ppl forget that HRC & Obama have strikingly similar records in spite of the differences that came out in the fighting for the nomination.

Obama & Abraham Lincoln share something... both are going to get the nomination after an acrimonious battle. Like Lincoln, Obama has remained civil and conciliatory. Taking the high ground, Lincoln united the party, his rivals joined his cabinet and became his friends. I believe Obama will do the same.

I think Hillary knows it's over. I was really interested to see if she would attack Obama today. I've noticed in the past that after offering concillatory remarks she's attacked Obama the next day. So after last night's positive tone towards Obama if Hillary attacked Obama today then that would indicate to me that Hillary was fighting on. If, on the other hand, she didn't have harsh words for Obama, then that would tell me Hillary knew it was over and the whole issue is timing. The pundits on MSNBC last night suggested that she should stay in the race until May 20 because she will win West Virginia and Kentucky, even if she were not in the race. by staying in the race until then, she could go out as a "winner".

I think she'll go through the campaign motions to raise cash (and pay herself back- there's nothing wrong with that) and begin to pull the Dems together to eventually back Obama.

As far as VPs for Obama.... Obama is about change and some people may be against an Obama/Clinton ticket. Personally I think O/C would really bring the Dems together. The VP is a largely ceremonial office (at least until Cheney) and Hillary is ready to step into the president's shoes if something were to happen to Obama. If Hill were VP for eight years, then she has a shot at prez in the 2016 race. As much as I don't like her now, if Obama does show a different type of politics is possible, and Hillary learns from that, then I'd support her.

That last part was actually pretty impressive in tone. A bit less divisiveness and more about unity. I think the Dems might be able to not tear eachother to shreds before November.
