		<description>Dowd is and always has been vapid.  She violates Rule #1: First and foremost, have something to say.  She never does.  Why anyone is a fan of hers other than out of a combination of faddishness and leftist nihilism (nihilism achieved, in her case, starting from zero and never proceeding from there), is a mystery to me and others who can actually think.  She has never been of any value, much less a so-called &quot;must-read,&quot; to me and others who can actually think, except as an obvious target of contempt when it is convenient.</description>

		<description>I agree with you on the sad decline of Dowd. But I&#039;m not too worried about the loss of dead tree newspapers as a forum for opinion. That need is well-served on the internet. I think the loss of newspapers as the providers of core reporting is a big problem. See fine article by Eric Alterman in the March 31 New Yorker.
