Wow. It's WAY too early in the morning for me to be trying to digest this.

Very well thought out and written Dr. E. Runasim, you have great commentary here too.

I'm going to have to chew on this for a bit before I can make any thoughtful comments.

http://thepajamapundit.com/

Very thoughtful article, Dr. E.
I especially appreciated its broad scope, so often missing from op ed pieces.

My Martian twin has been wondering for a long tiime why so many societies on earth begin and end their anguished worries about morality with the V part of the body. I suppose it begins with evolution and the competion over who will transmit the most genes to the next generation.

Strange, though, that having come so far from the evolutionary life style of beasts,, we haven't come very far at all in understanding the sum total of what it means to be a human being.

Beasts live by adapting to nature, but humans live by conquering nature to serve its needs. We haven't really figured out very well what the realtionship of man to nature ought to be.

The same is true of morality. I believe morality stems from the evolutionary urge to preserve the group/. The 'correct' behaivoir for a chimpanzee is whatever serves the survival of its group, in its particular environment.
We, however, haven't figured out what human behaviors are needed for the preservation of the speices in our environment.
For example, we keep expanding the span of individuals' lives wiithout asking how many lives this earth can sustain,

We are confused and without a clear vision of how to go forward. We go in fits and starts. We take wrong turns and sometimes regress

So while we're stumbling into the future, the sex trade is a constant reminder of how confused we really are. Legalization would fall far short of answering the moral questions, but it might just improve the life conditons . I don't oppose it, simply because any improvement would be better than none

..
