Rev. Wright squanders goodwill

After I watched Rev Wright on Bill Moyer’s on Friday I was inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was collateral damage in a political war. Then he spoke to the National Press Club today and squandered much of this goodwill. And I feel as disappointed as Andrew Sullivan, and agree that it appears necessary for Senator Obama to speak out to put more distance between his Pastor and his own personal beliefs.

It is time for the Republican-controlled Media to give this Wright controversy some fairness and balance and to enquire of Hillary Clinton and her surrogates the following:

Is it true that, (1) Hillary surrogate, Congresswoman Shiela Jackson Lee, is also a devotee of Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright; that he's been preaching at her home church, where she is actively involved, annually for the past 15 years and has an open invitation to return, and, that she sat in the pews for his visits and did not bat an eye? AND

Is it true that (2) Hillary surrogate, Rev. Marcia Dyson was not only a longtime member of Trinity United Church of Christ but also still considers Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright her pastor? That Rev. Marcia Dyson's seminary education, in part, was sponsored by Trinity UCC and encouraged by Rev. Wright? And was it not at Trinity were she first met her husband, Rev. Dr. Michael Dyson, who's been very vocal in his defense of Rev. Wright.?

And, lastly to Hillary Clinton, that if Rev. Wright would not have been her Pastor, then why did she and Bill when going through Impeachment, turn to Rev. Wright for Prayer and Support and invite him to the White House? These things should be asked and answered.

And, finally, why would a Republican-controlled Media give a "retired" Rev. Wright all this attention and air time, if not to try to destroy Barack Obama!? -- Their true Fear! That is why "daily" 24/7, the Republican-controlled media and talking heads are build-up Hillary, tear/smear down Obama, while McCain courts African-Americans that Clintons have ailenated by their "kitchen sink strategy, hoping all the while that she will become the Democratic nominee, so they can unleash the "arsenol" of weapons they have against her. Something they have been planning for years!

I submit, the Media is not our friend!

And, it is now time for the Parting of the Ways. I now understand why Barack thinks some people are bitter -- he has been conditioned to that by his Pastor to think that some people are bitter, although Barack was not subject himself to this bitterness!
  • If anyone thinks that Senator Obama is like Rev. Wright, I hope this shows how wrong they were. Rev. Wright seems to want to (I hate this term) "thrown Obama under the bus". He even said he would "go after him" if Obama was POTUS. This associations argument is insane right now. Go after Obama on Rezco or Ayers. But Rev. Wright? C'mon.

I think some people wanted Rev. Wright to be all "sweet" towards Obama. It would make it easier for the negative association to stick.

I wonder why Wright is doing this. Why did he chose now. I see the Moyers interview but, at the press club he was giddy with his behavior and knew he would cause the media feeding frenzy that took off into orbit and that it would be all they would talk about for the next week.
And knowing this would, after a month or more of the press trashing Obama, would just fuel it more.
Why would he do this to Obama? And how would he feel if he destroys this man's reputation and chance to become the nominee. Would he feel justified and glad he did in one weekend binge what Hillary and Bill could not do over the past 6 months?

I'll take 'Egomaniac Crackpots' for $1000, Alex.

I wonder when someone will claim that Wright is on Karl Rove's payroll. The reverend is certainly acting as if he is.

Let's see, this elitist creme puff threw his grandmother under the bus, who raised him while his mother was out getting bigamatized again. He missed his mother's death because of a conflict in scheduling [he was running for office in Illinois] and praised his bigamist drunk wife-abusing con-man daddy in an entire book, after this manly Kenyan abandoned him at the age of two.

Now he appears to again be mesmerized by a con man who is virtually destroying his electability as president, uttering bland disclaimers when he should be throwing the Reverend Wrong under the same bus he threw his white grandmother, who dared to admit a fear of black crime being committed on her.

Wright is obviously a crackpot egomaniac as Idiosyncrat lucidly observes. And that's a NICE interpretation of this lunatic.

Unless Obama can man up & repudiate this double-digit IQ [emotionally & morally] moron, he can kiss his presidential aspirations good-bye.
  • Let's see, this elitist creme puff threw his grandmother under the bus...

Definition of Elitism: Elitism is the belief or attitude that those individuals who are considered members of the elite — a select group of people with outstanding personal abilities, intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes — are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight; whose views and/or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole; or whose extraordinary skills, abilities or wisdom render them especially fit to govern.

Sounds like Senators Clinton, Obama, and McCain. And those that continue to say Obama "threw his grandmother under the bus" in his earlier race speech have said that to themselves enough to believe it. Obama UNDERSTOOD his grandmother. Plain and simple.

And another thing, what the hell is wrong with drinking a latte (not that you said anything about lattes, daveinboca)? I'm a 6' 4", 275 pound former collegiate offensive lineman that has grind many a good man's face into the turf with glee. I drink my beer with the boys while watching hockey and football on the tube. And I'm borderline insane when coaching high school football. And I enjoy a freakin' latte. And my manly factor is STRONG! Leave the "elite" food associations in the yard.

"Republican-controlled Media"-----oh, give it a rest, tru-fers. Name three people in the audience at the NPC that you know vote Republican.

Rev. Wright is simply a gift that keeps on giving.

While so many are disapponted by Rev. Wright's speech(es) I''m disappointed in the reaction by people like Sullivan.

Sullivan called Wright an exhibitionist . That's just another way of saying that Wright isn't white enough in his rhetorical style, should repent and begin to talk like a pseudo-European. .While that may be sound advice in the business world or politcs, it would also mean dissing many of his congregants. I, for one, respect being true to oneself in the face of adversity.

Of course, Wright did refer (only briefly during what I hear0 to sodomy. Maybe that explains Sullivan's use of adjecitves like 'ugly' and 'vile'

I disagree totally with many parts of Wright's theology. As an atheist, I disagree with all theology at its core. I especially dislike it when religion and politcs mix, so Wright's quoting of scripture doesn't impress me.
However, there are good lessons for all humanity in many religions. Because I don't believe in a deity, gives me not the slightes desire to despise all theologians or preachers. I pick and choose that which inspires me and reject that which offends me. Good is as good does, and seldom do good and bad, right and wrong, come wrapped in separate human bodies.

We accept the duality in most cases. The people who instigated and approved torture as a normal part of our national defense, arre still walking and talking in public, and are even admired by many.

So what makes Wright a special case? Why is his message of reconciliation ignored, while fixating on what ihe said 'worng?
I think the answer lies more with those watching Wright than with Wright himself.
