Who Will Denounce the Denouncers?

Since you are reading this, you’re clearly already in front of a computer with a browser window open. Let’s play a quick game this Sunday, shall we? Open up three new tabs or windows as you prefer, and pull up a Google News Search in each one. In the first one, obtain the search results on the quoted phrase “Will McCain Denounce” and see what you get. Let’s see… The Arizona Senator will have a busy week denouncing Floyd Brown, Rod Parsley, Jerry Falwell and Rush Limbaugh, among others.

In your second window, let’s check in on Hillary Clinton’s denouncement schedule. I see Ed Rendell, Geraldine Ferraro and … Mick Jagger(!?!) are all due for denouncing duties.

Of course, the star of the three ring denouncement circus is Senator Obama. He needs to get busy denouncing Ed Schultz, Louis Farrakhan and, of course, Reverend Wright. The pastor alone could keep a fellow at the podium denouncing through the end of the primary season.

Have you recently found yourself wondering why some of the candidates might not be letting you know all the information you need regarding the issues? Are they not making enough campaign stops you so can see them in person? I suspect they simply can’t squeeze in the time given how often they have to either denounce somebody’s statements, explain why they are not denouncing the statement, or denouncing the person who was calling for them to denounce the statement in the first place.

I don’t suppose there’s any chance that we can stop this silliness, is there? Perhaps we could just focus on what the candidates themselves are doing and saying. Maybe we can analyze their stated positions on the issues and decide if we like the direction they would like to steer the country. Might we not even give them a good look and ponder whether we like their words, their soul, their judgement and personality, rather than those of every Tom, Dick and Hariett they’ve ever met or spoken to for the last twenty years?

Naw. Never happen. In fact, I’ll probably have to denounce myself for writing this by the end of the weekend.

I think we should have a National Day of Denouncement and get it out of our systems, all in one fell swoop.
    National catharsis!
Followed by delcious silence in the denouncement arena.

I have other daydreams, as well.
