It has also been made clear to the general population that they will be kicked, poisoned, tear gassed, tazered, pepper sprayed if they protest with too much earnest. And even if they get to the designated sight of protest it will be far from the actual location. The cops look like monsters and arrest you on a whim, feeling unthreatened to abuse while they are at it.

We have allowed too much to go down without inquiry, protest or punishment.
For my money alot of people in a lot better position than I have not done their jobs.
Or have become as afraid as us, to hold them accountable.

I think many a crazy has stood up: sybel edmonds for one. protester are being thrown in jail for years at a time.

I am frightened as to what is happening.

We can blame the Bush administration or the media for a little while.
Then reality sets in: we, ourselves, are allowing this to continue like mute sheep on the way tto the slaughter house.
It's called market forces. and we are the market,
Sometimes it seems that we ask, beg to be hidden in a coccoon, shielded from knowing or caring where we are or where we're going.

We can only come together for brief moments when there is an identified
common enemy to hate. Is that all that can unify us, hate?

The US is engaged in two wars, but you'd never know how those are going by following news reports or blogs. To keep abreast of developments, one has to spend serious research time on the Internet.

I think we are fiddling while our own Rome burns.

My take on the situation was solidified when reading a particular blog post. The author was very upset that the John Adams TV series showed the warts on this early President's character. He didn't want to know, understand or learn a thing.
Just give him a flag to wave, and his citizenship duties are fulfilled.

During the vietnam war, you would get daily tallies, now it's all about Hillary, Obama and John -the three stooges. Oh yeah and American Idle.

Media/Entertainment is the new opiate of the masses.

People cannot have closure until there is something to close, but the hermetification of the Iraq war is psychologically unhealthy. The absence of images and stories is indeed extraordinary, and I'm afraid that Americans willingly share in the Bush administration's denial.
