Too Convenient?

For the cynics responding to my McCain post yesterday — and there were several of you — Andrew Sullivan channels the Politico‘s Jonathan Martin channeling a commenter at Martin’s blog, vetting your collective smirks.

That said, I think Martin hits the right balance, in the end: “I’m not sure that is how the RNC and McCain exactly wanted it to play out, but they’ll need to be careful if there is too much of the good cop/bad cop routine.”

Exactly. At some point, McCain needs to do more than scold the party. He needs to actually lead it.

Devious motivations are always a possibility. I think all the psychoanalysis in the air is getting way out of hand, though. If this is a political gambit, then it will be used more than once. Even psychics usually need more than one clue to make predictions.
There is also a possibllity of a backlash, if not among Rs, then certainly among Ds and some Independents.

I'm standing by for future develpments and not depending on Tarot cards.

I blelieve the ad has been pulled.

Devious motivations or not, the result is good, and McCain has scored political points.
