dear Leebot, very warm congratulations on the new little one. Makes me smile very deeply.

and Elliptical. I walk mostly at night (owl). Your ratio is just right

JSpencer, I'm with you, surely much much needs spading and turning and ammending getting everything ready to sow. Perfect. For the land. For the larger world.

and Lynx; 24hr newscycle is just madness; it seems to cause more gossip than fact or thought. reminds me of when we were young mothers and trying to have seven hands and two heads to try to take care of everyone 24/7. you're on to something re 'the push' to see, hear, know, find, et al. I think, most of us are looking for something significant; food for mind and spirit... reminds me of gold mining; a heck of a lot water through the pan before there's not a nugget, but a grain, but oh what a shiny and valuable speck

with kindest regards,
dr.e

"–watching some on TV who seem to be experiencing a second college-hood, using ‘candidates-gone-wild’ tones of voice"

This made me smile especially (as I sit here eating my breakfast out of my keyboard).

Thank you for this -- well stated, and much appreciated. I love the painting and mirror analogy. You are so right, that things can turn on a dime and what is true one day will not be true the next. Last week I had one grandchild -- this week I have two. I am immersing myself in them both, as children have such a talent for reminding us of what IS important and are exquisite teachers of living in the moment. Parsing language with a 4-year-old who is endlessly fascinated with wordplay is infinitely more satisfying than the game of "parsing sound bites as candidate Rorschach tests." Thank you for that reminder.

So I lift my latte to a journey back to center and a culling out of clutter both physical and electronic. Perhaps a new rule should be working out on the Elliptical during any and all watching of TV punditry. I'll either become very fit or more discerning in my viewing. (Note to self: Bill Moyers interview with Rev. Wright Friday night. Moyers is one of my favorites. I know this. And reading TMV of course -- one of the kinder, gentler blog sites.)

Great post Dr. Estes! I'm afraid I show some of the symptoms too, and this one in particular resonated:

"more and more amazed at the banality of election coverage, yet unable to stop trying to parse it all"

Fortunately, I have a lot of outdoor work now that the weather is decent, and that helps to burn out the impurities. ;-)

Hmmm, though not totally lost, I recognized an ample majority of the symptoms, so I must be in trouble. In any event I already suspected that looking at RealClearPolitics more than 7 times a day was probably not healthy.

We complain about the 24h news-cycle of the cable networks, but the truth is that we feed it, and into it, on the blogs. Except networks have people being paid and working in shifts, while we're trying to keep up the same pace while leading halfway productive lives.
