If you think the Republicans are hostile to subsidized healthcare now, you can't even imagine how RADICAL it was for Hillary to push it back in the 90's! The naivite about just how motivated and invested the Republicans were and are to maintain the staus quo just amazes me. Their witch hunt started then and they wasted $70 million doing whatever they could to stop it. They still are! People's memories are short but mine is long and I commend her for strategically getting in there, crossing the aisle. She gets it and knows her opponent. She means to get it all done.

If it weren't for Hillary, healthcare wouldn't even be on the table. She's pushed this idea for 20 years and had to convince everyone it was even a worthy subject. Like Gore with global warming, it has been a cause for her and like him, she's had to convince masses of "flat earth" believers. Now everyone is on board. Finally!!

I thought I heard her say in the debate that the gas holiday would only be appropriate if there was an offsetting windfall profits tax. That got my attention because here in Illinois, we did a gas tax holiday about 7 years ago and it definetly hurt the state. I thought Hillary's comments were more responsible.

I'll give you number 3 with the caveat that she totally botched her first attempt at health care reform.

So many of Clinton's supporters are ready to jump ship to McCain

While I don't believe that many would, if many did it would certainly be a bad reflection on Clinton supporters.

Nah Elrod, if you are only going to hold her to one event in her life, then sure she is a miserable failure at getting things done. However, that healthcare fiasco laid the groundwork to many of the bills she would later author, co-author, introduce, and get passed, this to say nothing of the many other bills she pushed through.

Yes, especially the last two points, when coupled together. She is certainly tough enough to work across the aisles. How about thinking of them on the same ticket, for that will surely be necessary? So many of Clinton's supporters are ready to jump ship to McCain for all the mean spiritness from Obama's campaign staff. Together, they will have no problem beating McCain. Without HRC on the ticket, no matter how tirelessly she and Bill work at it, Obama will still lose.

I happen to disagree with various points and the characterization of how the campaigns have been run, but I very much welcome this post. It's good to see a nice long list of positives for Clinton instead of a list of negatives about the other candidate. I've started characterizing myself as both an Obama and a Clinton supporter, because I think both would stand a decent chance of moving the country in a better direction.

Florida? So she wins in states where nobody campaigns?

Sorry, but number 9 is just wrong. She had one major executive responsibility while in the White House: health care. And she botched it with her secrecy and arrogance. Who's to say she's learned any lessons?

But maybe I should have let this entry sit. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I have to take issue with reason number 1 along with MaryL..

Calling for a temporary cut in the gas tax, to be paid for via a windfall profits tax on oil companies doesn't strike me as being economically savy.

I do agree with you regarding the health care plans. But I have serious doubts whether either of them could get theirs passed into law.

If she has such a great grasp of economic concepts, why is she playing "Me, too!" games with McCain's suggestion of a ridiculous gas tax "holiday" this summer? Not that either of them has the power to implement the plan, but supporting it shows either amazing ignorance of economic principles or a shameless willingness to pander.

You go Damozel. She's still not the one I wanted but there ARE enough reasons to vote for her (just as there are enough to vote for Obama too). Thanks for writing them up.
