vwcat, I agree. To me, real debates are both entertaining and informative. I wish PBS and CSPAN would take over the process so they can resist the "dumbing down"

That debate was widely criticized for the way the hosting network and its moderators, Charles Gibson and George Stephanopoulos, devoted the first half of the 90-minute debate to questions of little substance, such as the importance of wearing American flag lapel pins.
:You can have a riveting debate and one of substance with a bit of show biz and make people happy. I think of the ones moderated by Russert and Williams. The candidates were sitting and looking their best. The moderators asked important questions and let the candidates go back and forth a bit on the policy and do some weed wadding. They asked a few lighter or even trivial questions to lighten it.
But, you felt full. You had a bit of dessert along with a good dinner.
There was no excuse for ABC. Not only did they play trivial pursuit and left us feeling our intellect was highly insulted but, the flag pin lady was a plant. Not a democrat, she was for McCain and a republican, but, GS got some of his questions from rightwingers like Hannity.
