The point that the thought, idea, or belief that the economy will tank can cause it to tank. Here's a shock, it is possible that if people feel the outlook for the economy is good then that can effect the economy for the better. Do you challenge that fact by itself? Did he ever say this was the only idea he had or the main thing he would try and do. Or is this a tiny soundbite taken out of context and used to get idiots pissed off.

Consumer confidence based on gimmicks is what got us into this mess in the first place!

We've had years of 'the economy is great' in the face of contrary experience axross wide swaths of the population.

No more gimmicks!
