If HRC had the nomination sewed up, burning MoveOn would make sense; as MoveOn's brilliant “success” in smearing Petraeus indicates their views – while popular among the netroots – are anathema to the public at large.

Bush cowardly hides himself and his unpopular policies behind guys in uniform. And I've never seen much evidence that anyone gave a damn that MoveOn actually bothered to point this out. Outside of the usual crybabies like Rush Limbaugh and the Congressional Republicans.

A blessing in disguise. Not only HRC and her husband are training BHO to this fall battle , but at the same time, they are detoxifying the Dems from the Clintons. Just like about all the previous posts, I am at times appaled by Moveon positions, but then I dont gladly accept moveon help when my husband needed serious close protection. But then my husband was not having a sex scandal at the white house. That couple has treated the Dems as their own plaything, which it is not. Not only did we have to help getting Hillary elected (because she was his wife ????) but we are told as women we have to vote for her for the sake of sisterhood ??? and not for the sake of our country best interests but we are told she is entitled to it; are we a monarchy, or a nepotic country not to mention that if every scorned wife/cheated spouse of the US is entitled to become elected/POTUS those elections are not going to be needed for quite a long time.
The Dems called it on our head, when we accepted to cover up for a wrong doing individual, when we got goaded into payback/blackmail money into getting a spouse elected for teh simple reason, she was a spouse and worse when we found legitimate to have that spouse running for the general election when deep inside us , we felt humiliated by the behaviour of that couple. If we ever win this year, it will say a lot about the individual and solely his own achievement of BHO. i AM PROUD OF MY FELLOW DEMOCRATS BUT THOSE BIGWIGS OF OUR PARTY MUST BE SHOWN THE DOOR.
So to discover now that the sole use of the party for the clintons was to become their servant is not a big discovery. We

Just to say…

I find these aggregators of Joe's – whether on news opinion, blogosphere opinion etc – to be very good. I imagine other folks do as well.

What is most characteristic is Joe's scrupulousness to be fair and accurate in these selections…which makes them trustworthy as a precis of the times.

Very true. As recently as the "General Betray-us" controversy, HRC was supporting MoveOn (though she caved to pressure on that score eventually).

I suspect this was HRC's version of Obama's "elitist moment" -- a talk in private that was not expected to be disseminated in general.

Her Afghanistan-hit on MoveOn I think is broadly true, and not just a "Rove lie". The founders and key people at MoveOn were part of that movement on the Left to short circuit intervention in Afghanistan. "MoveOn" as an organization did not take this position...but its key figures did through other means. "Six of one, a half dozen of the other."

Elrod's second question is very good: "what exactly does she disagree with MoveOn about..." but, I suspect, not likely to be answered soon.

It is also a good question to be asked of Obama. I suppose, in a better universe, such pressing questions would be part of the debates themselves. It is a squirming question for both, but their answers would be interesting.

It is truly fascinating that the damage BOTH HRC and Obama have taken has - for the most part - been self-inflicted.

Another bothersome point is this: what exactly does she disagree with MoveOn about with respect to foreign policy and national security? If it's Afghanistan then she just repeated a Rove-created lie. If it's Iraq or terrorism or something else then I'd like to know what it is. Surely the Democratic electorate would like to know too.

What hurts her most is her recent praise for MoveOn. She's trying to Sista Soldjah the activist base of the Democratic Party. The problem is that the audience that would find that appealing doesn't vote Democratic and never will. Sure, many Democrats (myself included) find MoveOn over the top and inappropriate at times. But we recognize that groups like MoveOn are critical to mobilizing Democratic voters. And we also know that she relies on MoveOn whenever she needs to because, at the end of the day, MoveOn is on the same side as her. But she'd rather kick them to the curb.
