The Coming “Nonpolarity”

Are we moving towards a “nonpolar” world?

It's impossible to know how the US will fit in when the new power centers take firmer hold. Certianly, our role will be dimished., and the US seems determined to assist its own diminishment.

We could have taken a leading role in dealing with global warming, but we insist on missing that boat.
We could have taken a leading role on how to combat terrorism, but we took the dead en-end route of brute force and harsh treatment.
We could have ensured a leading role in developing technologies by investing iin education and research at serous levels, but we're nickel and diming efforts in those areas.
We could have paid attention to building a solid, inclusive, economy instead of merely relying on faith-based maxims like cutting taxes and dismantling regualtions without care or precision.

The US is so weakened now, I don't see that catching up can be anything but a long- term strategy, for someime in the future.
