It is opined that Bill Clinton committed racist hate crimes, and I am not free to say anything further about it.

The Politico, by the way, typifies what's worst about political coverage. They highlight the horse race aspects and the gotcha. They do little else but punditry. It's not at all must read in any way. Blogs do it and already do it and there are thousands employed doing the same thing.

Further...Jake Tapper, at ABC News blog...notes that Obama's campaign is spinning damage control by AVOIDING Obama's reference to guns and religion altogether.

"But Obama allies are trying to focus on the "bitter" part alone.
...No mention of the "cling"-ing to guns or religion.
Likewise, when Obama's most valued surrogate in the Keystone State, Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., took to CNN this morning, he steered clear of explaining the guns and religion part of Obama's comments, even when pressed specifically to explain it."

How many working class Americans are religious? Are they all "clinging" to religion like an opiate of the masses?

The ABC News report shows that, contrary to a lot of folks, Obama's campaign realizes how bad this is...and PRECISELY what parts of his words are devastating.

Small town America...guns...religion...racism...

Unbelievable.

"Somewhat similar" is the operative phrase in comparing Bill Clinton's and Obama's words. They are very different.

Nowhere, for example, does Bill Clinton say rural working class people "cling to guns and religion".

Simply an unbelievable statement. Contrary to the majority opinion here at TMV, I think this will cost Obama the election.

Remember Kerry gave Rove his "Gift" - after the GOP engineered a campaign to pressure him into making a statement - "for it before he was against it" back in MARCH 2004 (months before the election!).

Liberals, in the Liberal Echo Chamber, kept repeating there was nothing wrong with this. George Bush was the REAL flip-flopper etc. This defense was repeated ad nauseum in the media.
However, the Republicans knew right away how devastating that statement was. And it was.... This is a similarly defining gaffe for Obama.

As I have said, the only stereotypes of the white working class Obama didn't use in this speech were: pickup trucks, dueling banjoes, and "Squeal like a pig".

If any white politician stereotyped African Americans as a group in the same way - - he/she would be denounced for racism.

Yet once again Obama gets a pass.

He won't get a pass from the GOP in November.

Why should HRC be expected to give Obama a pass, yet again? She didn't say anything about Wright for days, after all.
Why shouldn't HRC want to save the Democratic Party from McGovern Lite?
