WGY DOES THE EDIT CUT OFF COMMENTS MIDWAY?

This is what I wrote:

Superdestroyer just demonstrated the dangers of being too ardent a 'believer in any political ism. It blinds you to the realities of the day. It also gives false credentials to anyone claiming to be a member of the 'right' club.
This is no different than an argument about the 'right' religion.

A religion or a political philosophy is what its practioners make it to be.
The argument actually is, and should be stated to be, about what practices one endorses, not about what 'true conservatism; or 'true Christianity' is.
A theory, a philosophy or a religion is just an abstract idea. What shapes our lives is how that philosophy is translated into action.

Besides, apart from extremists, most people are not one thing or the other across the board. Human nature is complex and quite capable of accomodating contradictory elements. Most people are 'conservative' in some areas and 'liberal' in others.
That's how it should be. Put on the straight jacket of an ism, and you amputate part of your nature and the possibility to learn and to change accordingly. ,

However, a real conservative would realize that unlimited immigration and open borders makes conservatism impossible. A real conservative would realize that open borders makes fiscal conservatism impossible. A real conservative would realize that unlimited immigration makes it harder for the government to provide the services that a government should provide.

A real conservative would realize that giving the government control over speech is very dangerous. A real conservative would realize that international adventures make fiscal conservatism impossible.

If McCain did not have admirals for his father and grandfather, he would be retired from managing a tire store and living in a trailer in Arizona .

Senator McCain is totally unfit to be presient and is unfit to represent anything that can be called conservative.

I really can't care very much whether McCain is a true conservative or not.
I live in the here and now, where he is a candidate for the presidency, so I'm just interested in what his policies are,, regardless of political label.

I am actually greatly troubled by the apparent need of people these days to self-identify by political philosophy. It's limiting,, because any question that comes up has then to be examined in terms of loyalty to that philosoph, rather than the merists of a proposal as it pertains to current conditions.
It also seems to lead to the tendency to cling to philosophically correct policies long after it has become apparent that they are not working welll, or are, in fact, producing very negative results.

It's far better, IMO, to draw on a variety of great thinkers and on historical experience with an open mind to chart one's course, One is free, then, to make personal choices without having to question loyalty to one particular philosophy, religion or political party.

"The problem with today’s so-called conservatives is that they are too radical"

You've just identified yourself as the real stranger. But you have plenty of company on this non-moderate "moderate" [sic] Web site, at least.
