Six Teenage Girls Beat Up Girl For MySpace Posting And Video It

When I was a kid I watched The Three Stooges to get my fix of violent comedy. Now a lot of kids and teens watch the real thing and laugh watching Jackass (that’s an MTV show, not a candidate running for President). When I was a kid, fights, or gang-type “jumpings,” were furtive. Now some teens video their deeds, hoping to get it on YouTube so everyone could see what they did.

Like (according to reports) the girls (who are presumed innocent until they are proven guilty) in this video below of a newscast which explains it all. NOTE: This news clip only shows a small part of the beating video which reportedly goes on for about 30 minutes:

Here’s an even more graphic report that shows three minutes of the infamous video — and gets across how desensitized these girls were to what they were doing to another human being. Just listen to their comments in the background as the girl is being beaten.

I came of age when Political Correctness and the trend of making everyone a victim was going into overdrive. While I don't think you are minimizing the pain this girl has suffered, I do think you are being very soft on the perpetrators.

Look at your language "gets across how desensitized these girls were to what they were doing to another human being". The beginning of the post insinuates that these are normal youths, just like you were, but that "something" has made them violent.
What ever happened to being a bad person? Whatever happened to people who simply enjoy seeing others humiliated and in pain? Who enjoy the feeling of power? These are teens, not toddlers, and they are clearly enjoying themselves. Save a diagnosis of some serious mental illness I think it's safe to say they are BAD PEOPLE. I've seen up close (like pretty much any young person whose gone to liberal public high schools) the result of treating perpetrators as if they were merely misunderstood, unloved, victims in their own right. They laugh at this, they think it's hilarious that they can do their worst and be treated to counselling. What's much more important, they'll do it again, and others with such inclinations will do it also. Society cannot be seen to be tolerant of these things, or it will never stop.

Sorry, but you are really reading more into the text of my post and perhaps projecting what some others have said. I don't think the way I reacted to this or what I wrote makes the girls shown in it who are beating this girl up, or the others mentioned to be on the video "victims." That may appl to some other writer. It is a fact that youths today are raised in a culture where they are desensitized more than other to violence. More than ever "entertainment" is watching a movie where people are killed in hideous ways, laughing at people getting truly physically hurt on Jackass etc. I don't think this is a "liberal" "conservative" thing and or a liberal, conservative, centrist thing. I haven't read anything yet that also suggests these girls (and it could come out) had a history of doing this before so, yes, they were apparently cheerleaders (some of them) who decided to do this to another human being. The other story this week was about third graders who plotted to murder their teacher. While your points are indeed good ones about good people and bad people there are good and bad people who are liberals, conservatives and centrists. Normally I don't respond in comments due to time, but sorry I don't accept for a minute that my short text above excused those who were shown on the part of the video that has been released or might be shown on the other parts we didn't see or that my post in anyway reflects anything to do with being liberal or conservative. Your points about victimization are GOOD and about the fact you can have good and bad people.. But it is a FACT that you can be stunned watching people do this to another human being. Why? Because in my case -- and the case of most Americans -- it's not jut the law to the fact that we would not think of knowingly hurting another human being and having (according to reports) two people outside to stand as lookouts. Good points in general, but I beg to differ on me trying to paint them consciously or unconsciously as victims.

The high flying freedom of the Internet finally lands.-with a bang.

I've eead several accounts of on-line verbal bullying. among girls and about spreading malicious gossip. What could previously only be whispered in a succession of familiar ears can now be spread through cyberspace with less
efffort .The impact on the victims is, of course, proportionally more serious..

I think this has more to do with mob mentality, not political correctness at all.

Our culture is aggressive in so many ways that I'm not at all surprised to see girls becomeing more physical in their fights, If we don't like to see girls fight, we should be more concerned when boys it.
We should become even more concerned about the malice of what many adults type on their keyboards , in priavacy but for public consumption.
Who are the role models these girls are learning from?

Hmmm well I apologize if I misinterpreted your intention, then. I guess you're right that I might have been projecting onto you reactions I've seen from others, in this day of psychoanalyzing people to death. While I'm at it I'd like to clarify my mentioning of the "liberal high school". I certainly don't think violence in society is a liberal or a conservative problem. It's a problem for all of us. But speaking from my own experience in a liberal school district, I do think one of the issues that contributes to the problem is the extreme reluctance shown by liberal teachers to lay blame, to demand responsibility. Nothing ever seems to be the FAULT of the teen. The teen simply does awful things because of CAUSES, society, videogames, TV, a broken family. It's not that I don't think societal causes shouldn't be examined, it's that I think this removal of blame is ALSO a cause of the problem. Maybe I'm mistaken in associating this tendency more to liberalism. Maybe schools in conservative districts do the same thing or commit some other set of errors that also must be looked into.

Image how the Jenna six would have been seen in the media if there was video of six black teenagers attacking and beating one white student. The reason this story even made the news is that there is video of it and it involves white girls. That way people can talk about violence, bullying, double standards, the internet, etc while avoid most of the sticky issues.

If the video would have been white girls beating a black girls, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be in Lakeland, Florida. If the video would have been six black girls beating a white girl, it would have been ignored.

Interesting commentary. I just see this as nothing more than some girls getting pissed off over something that another girl did and going to teach her a lesson.

You're telling me that such behavior never happened when you guys were kids? You never saw fights in the school yard? Kids never exacted retribution against other kids for things they said about them? You never heard of a confrontation that maybe got a bit too heated and people who got a bit too carried away?

The medium for you to view it may have changed (Youtube), but I assure you that such things have been going on since the beginning of people... Whether you saw it or not on TV or it was reported, there's long been pockets of dysfunction and aggression in our society.

I'm not condoning their behavior. Frankly, I don't know anything about what really happened... But I don't see it as a sign of society being any more violent or "the wheels coming off". That community will sort it out, law enforcement and the justice system will do its thing, and like others who have recorded their crimes, the perpetrators will pay an extra price for their malignant vanity.

obviously, these girls are bad seeds imho because not only did they premeditate the act, they documented it( evidence against them, when will these idiots learn!) To do so requires a conscious choice- to do harm, or to let it go. They chose to do harm, and not just a simple smack down, a brutal head-bashing gang-style beating. They should do time for this and be tried as adults.

Too carried away, just a bit of scampish fun. Umm...no. Maybe your idea of geting carried away requires facial reconstructive surgery, I dunno.

Growing there was always school yard fights but it usually resulted in one- on one dueling, not a gang style jump in. Worst you got was a bloody nose, maybe some bruises. This was viscious attempted murder for the benefit of their egos.

Way to pull out ad-hominem race card. Deal with the issue at hand than race baiting please, troll.

I hope they get some well earned jail time. Planning a trap for someone and knocking them around for 30 minutes because of something they said is not acceptable behavior and anyone who thinks these viscious bitches should get off light should try walking a mile in the victim's shoes. What they did is so far off of a standard schoolyard fight I don't even know where to begin.

    IN RESPONSE TO REMEMBERNOVEMBER

Wow...attributing this to something of a "coming of age" ritual is obsurd. While you say you "...don't know anything about what really happened..." I would comment and say, this beating goes far and beyond any sort of school yard confrontation. This is equivalant to a gang of sociopathic girls who mericlessly beat (she may lose some vision and hearing) a young girl who WASN"T EVEN FIGHTING BACK. Last time I checked a fight needed two parties...a beating in this case is a better description. I suggest maybe gathering some more facts before dismissing this as a "confrontation."

this is outrageous.....how in the world can these girls become so angry that they all have to beat up one girl because of rumors....wha kind out world are we in today.....now no afecnce those girls probably thought that she looks like she wont fight back or she's harmless....if this would have been against some girls who they knew they couldnt fight then this would have never went down this way....those girls deserve everything that they get because that is no way to act....now i strongly believe that once they have been served that they all were in tears and crying because of the dumb stuff that they did.....this makes no sence to me.....now in this situation what if that girl "Victoria" had a gun or a weapon....if they would have gotten injured iwould say let victoria go because she was simply defending herself......these girls dont need to be thrown in jail they need to be under the jail because of the stupifd SHIT they did.....i hope they dont think that they are cool now for straight up beating up a girl that is not cool in my book thats stupid.....like i;ve always been told if you cant fight someone without having someone helping you and without shaking hands at the end then drop the issue and let it go....you girls know so much better but you let RUMORS and probably other boys/girls talk you into this now look where your at and look where Victoria is......you girls are so STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
